Toolbox Talk:

Watch Your Step—Sharp Hazards on the Ground

June 27, 2025

Nails, screws, broken glass, and scrap metal can turn a clean site into a hazard zone. These sharp objects not only cause injuries but also slow down the job with unnecessary first aid and incident reports.

Why It Matters:

Puncture wounds from nails or sharp debris are among the most common preventable jobsite injuries. They can lead to infections, missed workdays, and even tetanus if untreated. Good housekeeping and proper footwear can go a long way in preventing these issues.

Key Points:

  • Wear puncture-resistant work boots at all times.
  • Remove exposed nails from boards before tossing them.
  • Use magnetic sweepers and regular walkthroughs to catch loose hardware.
  • Don’t walk through debris piles—clean as you go.
  • Report and remove sharp hazards immediately.

✅ A clean path is a safe path.

Ask the Crew:

  • Have you stepped on or tripped over nails or scrap recently?
  • Are we taking time each day to scan and clean our areas?
