Outriggers increase crane stability — but only if used correctly.
Why It Matters:
Improper outrigger setup is a leading cause of crane instability. Tipping during a lift can lead to severe injury, equipment damage, or collapse.
Key Points:
- Fully extend all outriggers unless a certified lift plan states otherwise.
- Use outrigger pads or crane mats on soft, uneven, or asphalt surfaces to distribute weight.
- Inspect ground conditions beneath each outrigger for voids, slopes, or underground hazards.
- Never operate a crane with partially deployed outriggers unless specifically designed for it and approved.
✅ Outriggers out = peace of mind.
Ask the Crew:
- Are all outriggers fully deployed and on stable ground?
- Are we using proper pads or mats for support?
- Have we verified soil conditions beneath each outrigger?
