Toolbox Talk:

Train Everyone to Recognize Confined Space Hazards

June 26, 2025

Every worker on-site — even those not assigned to confined space work — should understand the dangers and know to stay out.

Why It Matters:

Unauthorized entries often happen because a worker doesn’t recognize a space as dangerous. Just because someone isn’t part of the confined space crew doesn’t mean they’re immune to risk. Awareness across the site prevents tragedy.

Key Points:

  • Train all workers on the definition of a confined space and why it’s hazardous.
  • Make sure they understand that “permit-required” means do not enter unless authorized.
  • Use orientation meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce this message.
  • Supervisors should remind workers frequently, especially on fast-moving or multi-trade jobsites.

✅ Site-wide awareness keeps everyone safe — not just those on the permit.

Ask the Crew:

  • Does everyone here know what a confined space is?
  • Could anyone accidentally enter one today without realizing it?
