UV Exposure & Sun Protection

Toolbox Talk:

Sun Safety on the Jobsite

June 27, 2025

Working outdoors means you’re exposed to the sun — even on cloudy days.

Why It Matters:

Ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your skin and eyes, increasing the risk of skin cancer, sunburns, and long-term eye issues. Construction workers are especially at risk due to long hours outside.

Key Points:

  • Wear sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and reapply every 2 hours — more often if sweating.
  • Use UV-rated safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes.
  • Wear long sleeves, wide-brim hard hat shades, and neck protection when possible.
  • Take breaks in the shade and drink plenty of water.
  • Check your skin regularly for unusual spots or changes.

✅ A few extra precautions today can prevent serious health issues tomorrow.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are we using sunscreen and UV-rated PPE?
  • Do we have access to shade and water during breaks?
