Toolbox Talk:

Slippery Surfaces After Rain

June 27, 2025

Wet surfaces create prime conditions for slips and falls — one of the most common jobsite injuries.

Why It Matters:

After rain, walkways, ladders, scaffolding, and even flat ground can become slick and dangerous. A simple misstep can lead to a twisted ankle, broken bone, or head injury. Slips don’t just happen during heavy storms — even light rain can leave hazards behind.

Key Points:

  • Identify and mark slippery areas after rainfall.
  • Use slip-resistant mats, covers, or grating where possible.
  • Clean up mud tracked into work zones — it becomes a slick layer when dry.
  • Don’t rush: slow, deliberate footing prevents most falls.
  • Wear boots with good traction, and avoid smooth-soled shoes on wet ground.

✅ Every step on a wet jobsite deserves caution.

Ask the Crew:

  • Where are our biggest slip hazards today?
  • Do we have a plan to dry, mark, or reroute around them?
