Toolbox Talk:

Secure Materials and Tools Against Wind

June 27, 2025

Loose objects can become dangerous projectiles in high winds. Take proactive steps to secure everything on site — before the wind picks up.

Why It Matters:

Unsecured plywood, metal panels, or even hand tools can cause serious injuries or property damage when carried by strong gusts. Preventing this is simple but often overlooked.

Key Points:

  • Tie down, band, or remove materials that can catch the wind — especially on rooftops or scaffolds.
  • Store tools in bins, boxes, or bags when not in use.
  • Don’t lean boards, panels, or signage against walls where they can fall.
  • Use weighted barriers or sandbags for temporary fencing and signage.
  • Clean up regularly — debris becomes dangerous when airborne.

✅ Wind doesn’t give warnings. Secure it before you regret it.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are all materials secured or stored properly?
  • What areas are most vulnerable if the wind picks up today?
