Toolbox Talk:

Replace Burnt-Out Bulbs and Fix Broken Fixtures Promptly

June 27, 2025

Lighting isn’t just a convenience — it’s a safety requirement on every jobsite.

Why It Matters:

Poor lighting leads to slips, trips, and missed hazards. When bulbs go out or fixtures break, visibility drops immediately, increasing the risk of injuries during routine tasks.

Key Points:

  • Treat lighting like PPE — inspect it regularly.
  • Burned-out bulbs in walkways, stairwells, or work zones must be reported and replaced immediately.
  • Broken fixtures or exposed wiring should be tagged out and repaired by qualified personnel.
  • Temporary lighting should be secured and protected from water, impact, or tampering.
  • Never rely on a single light source in critical work areas — build in redundancy.

✅ A well-lit site is a safer site.

Ask the Crew:

  • Have we reported any burnt-out lights or flickering bulbs?
  • Do we have backup lighting in high-risk zones?
  • Are temporary lights protected and properly installed?
