Proper Storage of Flammable Liquids on Construction Sites

June 27, 2025

Flammable liquids like gasoline, diesel, solvents, and adhesives are commonly used on construction sites—but if not stored correctly, they pose a major fire and explosion risk.

Why It Matters:

Improper storage of flammable liquids can lead to uncontrolled fires, worker injury, or regulatory fines. Following storage rules keeps your crew and site safe.

Key Points:

  • Always store flammable liquids in approved, labeled containers (e.g., red safety cans with flame arresters).
  • Keep storage areas well-ventilated, away from ignition sources like generators, heaters, or welding.
  • Use flammable storage cabinets when storing liquids indoors or in enclosed spaces.
  • Ensure liquids are stored below eye level and segregated from incompatible materials.
  • Limit the quantity stored onsite to what’s needed for short-term use.

✅ Safe storage prevents fires before they start.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are our flammable liquids stored in approved containers?
  • Is our storage area well-marked and ventilated?
  • Are we keeping excess quantities offsite or in proper storage?
