Rescue plans are only effective if they’ve been practiced under realistic conditions.
Why It Matters:
Confined space rescues are high-pressure, time-critical operations. If your crew hasn’t rehearsed the plan, even small missteps can result in serious injury or death.
Key Points:
- Conduct mock rescue drills at regular intervals — at least annually, or more often for high-risk work
- Include all involved roles: entrants, attendants, supervisors, and designated rescue teams
- Simulate realistic scenarios — unconscious worker, toxic gas exposure, or entanglement
- Time the rescue and document outcomes to identify improvement areas
- Ensure drills cover use of equipment, communication protocols, and emergency services notification
✅ Practice now so panic doesn’t take over later.
Ask the Crew:
- When was our last confined space rescue drill?
- Do we feel confident in executing our rescue plan under pressure?
