PPE Inspections and Maintenance

Toolbox Talk:

PPE Inspections Should Be Daily, Not Occasional

June 25, 2025

Wearing PPE isn’t enough — it has to be in good condition to actually protect you. That’s why inspections are a non-negotiable part of the job.

Why It Matters:

PPE that’s cracked, worn, or damaged gives a false sense of security and can fail when it matters most. Daily inspections catch issues before they turn into accidents.

Key Points:

  • Inspect hard hats for cracks, dents, or UV damage. Replace if compromised.
  • Look over safety glasses and face shields for scratches or warping that could affect vision or protection.
  • Gloves should be checked for tears, punctures, or chemical damage — different jobs require different glove types.
  • High-visibility vests must be clean and not faded; if others can’t see you, they can’t avoid you.
  • Footwear should be checked for worn soles, holes, or detached toe caps.

✅ PPE is only protective if it’s in working order — inspect it like your life depends on it.

Ask the Crew:

  • Did we inspect all PPE before starting today?
  • Do we know the signs that our PPE needs replacing?
