Toolbox Talk:

No Badge, No Entry — Enforce Permit Controls

June 26, 2025

Every confined space entry must be approved, documented, and assigned — no exceptions.

Why It Matters:

Permits aren’t paperwork for paperwork’s sake. They’re a checklist of critical protections: air testing, rescue plans, trained entrants, and designated attendants. Unauthorized entry skips all of that — and puts lives at risk. If your name isn’t on the permit, you’re not going in.

Key Points:

  • Permit-required confined spaces must have a valid, active permit before entry.
  • Only trained and authorized workers listed on the permit can enter.
  • The attendant is responsible for knowing who is inside — and must deny entry to anyone not cleared.
  • If you’re not briefed on the hazards and procedures, you’re not ready to enter.

✅ The permit process saves lives — don’t bypass it.

Ask the Crew:

  • Do we know who’s authorized to enter the space today?
  • Has the permit been filled out, posted, and reviewed by the team?
