Keeping Walkways Clear

Toolbox Talk:

Manage Extension Cords and Hoses Across Walkways

June 27, 2025

Temporary power cords and hoses are often needed, but they shouldn’t create permanent hazards.

Why It Matters:

Unsecured cords and hoses across walkways are one of the most common trip hazards on construction sites. Even if you’ve stepped over them a hundred times, the next person might not see them — especially in low visibility or when carrying materials.

Key Points:

  • Route cords and hoses away from high-traffic areas whenever possible.
  • Use cord covers or secure them with tape to prevent movement.
  • Never daisy-chain cords across a path without protection.
  • Coil and store unused lengths of hose or cord to avoid excess slack.

✅ Tidy cords = safer floors.

Ask the Crew:

  • Do we have cords or hoses crossing walkways?
  • Are we using covers or rerouting where needed?
