Toolbox Talk:

Know Your Emergency Weather Plan

June 27, 2025

Severe weather can hit fast — everyone on site should know what to do and where to go when it does.

Why It Matters:

Tornadoes, lightning, flash floods, and high winds can strike with little warning. Confusion or hesitation during a weather emergency can lead to injuries or fatalities. A clear, practiced plan keeps your crew safe.

Key Points:

  • Every site must have a weather emergency plan — review it regularly.
  • Identify shelter locations for each type of weather (lightning, tornado, etc.).
  • Set up a reliable alert system: radio, text, or PA announcements.
  • Assign someone to monitor forecasts and issue warnings.
  • Evacuate cranes and elevated work areas immediately when warnings are issued.
  • Resume work only after an all-clear is given by site supervision.

✅ When weather strikes, a well-drilled plan saves lives.

Ask the Crew:

  • Do you know where to shelter on this site?
  • How will we be notified if weather becomes a threat?
