A quality pair of work boots is a key part of your PPE — but only if it’s in good shape. Damaged, worn, or poorly maintained boots can lead to injuries on the job.
Why It Matters:
Worn-out soles, broken laces, and cracked leather reduce protection and traction. That puts you at risk for slips, trips, punctures, and crushed toes — especially in unpredictable environments.
Key Points:
- Check the soles daily: Look for excessive wear, smooth tread, or detached sections.
- Inspect stitching and structure: Loose seams, cracked leather, or damaged toe caps compromise support and safety.
- Replace damaged boots immediately: Don’t wait for a real injury to happen — your feet are too important.
- Keep boots clean and dry: Mud and moisture break down materials and increase slip risk.
- Store properly at the end of each shift: Use boot dryers if available; avoid tossing them into damp lockers or bags.
✅ Well-maintained boots last longer — and protect better.
Ask the Crew:
- Are your boots showing signs of wear?
- Do we have a plan to replace damaged footwear before it becomes a problem?
