Toolbox Talk:

Keep Your Protective Eyewear Clean and Clear

June 25, 2025

Dirty, scratched, or fogged-up safety glasses can impair your vision and create hazards instead of preventing them.

Why It Matters:

When your vision is compromised, you’re more likely to miss hazards or make mistakes. Clean, clear lenses ensure you can see clearly and stay safe while working, reducing your risk of injury.

Key Points:

  • Regularly clean your protective eyewear with mild soap and water or specialized lens cleaning solution—avoid harsh chemicals or rough materials that can scratch lenses.
  • Store eyewear in a protective case when not in use to prevent scratching or damage.
  • Immediately replace safety glasses or goggles with lenses that are scratched, cracked, or severely worn.
  • Use anti-fog wipes or solutions to keep lenses clear in humid or changing temperature environments.
  • Regularly check the condition of face shields and welding helmets for clarity and replace damaged shields or lenses promptly.

Clear vision leads to clear safety—keep your eyewear in top shape.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are our safety glasses clean, clear, and free from scratches today?
  • Do we have adequate supplies and cleaning materials available?
