Keeping Walkways Clear

Toolbox Talk:

Keep Walkways Clear to Prevent Trips and Delays

June 27, 2025

Clean, clear walkways are a sign of a safe and efficient jobsite. Cluttered paths increase the risk of trips, falls, and slowdowns.

Why It Matters:

Trip hazards are one of the most common causes of injury on construction sites. A blocked walkway doesn’t just endanger workers — it can delay access during emergencies or slow down productivity.

Key Points:

  • Do not store tools, materials, cords, or debris in walkways.
  • Assign designated storage areas to keep materials out of traffic paths.
  • Coil or secure cords, hoses, and cables crossing walkways.
  • Keep access points to stairs, ladders, and emergency exits fully open at all times.
  • Perform regular housekeeping walkthroughs to keep high-traffic areas safe.

✅ A clean path is a safe path — for feet, wheels, and emergency access.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are any of our walkways currently blocked?
  • What’s the plan for keeping them clear throughout the day?
