Toolbox Talk:

Keep High-Vis Gear Clean and Undamaged

June 25, 2025

High-visibility clothing only works when it’s bright and reflective — dirty, faded, or torn gear loses its ability to keep workers safe.

Why It Matters:

Construction zones are often dusty, muddy, and busy. Over time, high-vis vests and jackets can lose their reflectivity. If drivers, equipment operators, or other crew members can’t clearly see you, the risk of serious injury increases.

Key Points:

  • Wash high-vis gear regularly following manufacturer instructions.
  • Replace any garments that are faded, torn, or no longer reflective.
  • Don’t cover up reflective surfaces with tool belts, hoodies, or harnesses.
  • Store gear properly to prevent damage from sunlight or chemicals.

✅ Clean and visible = noticed and protected.

Ask the Crew:

  • Is your vest still reflective and in good shape?
  • When was the last time you replaced your high-vis gear?
