Toolbox Talk:

Hydration Supports Sun Protection

June 27, 2025

Working under the sun takes a toll on your body — and staying hydrated is a key part of protecting yourself.

Why It Matters:

Dehydration worsens the effects of UV exposure, increases the risk of heat-related illness, and reduces your body’s ability to cool itself through sweating. Hydrated workers stay safer, more alert, and more resistant to sun fatigue.

Key Points:

  • Drink water regularly — don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
  • Avoid high-caffeine and sugary drinks that dehydrate you.
  • Use electrolyte supplements if sweating heavily or working long shifts.
  • Drink small amounts every 15–30 minutes during hot conditions.
  • Encourage your crew to hydrate during all breaks, and provide shaded water stations when possible.

✅ Water is part of your PPE when working under the sun.

Ask the Crew:

  • Do we have enough cold water nearby today?
  • Are we reminding each other to hydrate regularly?
