Toolbox Talk:

Good Housekeeping Equals Jobsite Safety

June 24, 2025

A cluttered, disorganized work area is an accident waiting to happen. Good housekeeping isn’t just about keeping things tidy—it’s a critical step to keeping everyone safe.

Why It Matters:

Poor housekeeping leads directly to slip, trip, and fall injuries, as well as fires, struck-by incidents, and delays in emergency response. Good housekeeping practices reduce these hazards and keep productivity high.

Key Points:

  • Regularly remove waste and scrap materials to reduce clutter.
  • Clearly mark and maintain walking paths and emergency exits.
  • Store tools and equipment in designated areas, not on the ground.
  • Address spills immediately to prevent slipping hazards.
  • Schedule routine cleanups as part of daily tasks.

An organized site is a safe site.

Ask the Crew:

  • Is our work area clean enough to avoid unnecessary hazards?
  • Do we have dedicated cleanup times built into our daily schedule?
