Toolbox Talk:

Gloves Aren’t Invincible — Watch for Hidden Hazards

June 27, 2025

Even with gloves on, your hands can be vulnerable to punctures and cuts from hidden nails, wire, or sharp scrap. Rushing through cleanup or demolition without caution increases the chance of getting hurt.

Why It Matters:

Many workers believe gloves are enough to prevent injury — but nails poking through debris or hidden in lumber can easily break through. A deep puncture can lead to infection, tendon damage, or lost time.

Key Points:

  • Treat all debris piles as high-risk until cleared and inspected.
  • Use tools, not hands, to move or sort sharp materials.
  • Wear puncture-resistant gloves if handling demolition debris.
  • Watch for wires or nails sticking out of concrete forms, pallets, or waste bins.
  • Report or remove any unsafe pileups with sharp materials.

✅ Sharp awareness prevents sharp consequences.

Ask the Crew:

  • What gloves are we using for sharp-object handling?
  • Are we checking waste and materials before grabbing them?
