Toolbox Talk:

Emergency Communication During Severe Weather

June 27, 2025

When severe weather hits, clear communication can save lives and reduce chaos.

Why It Matters:

Confusion during an emergency leads to delays and danger. Workers need to know where to go, who to listen to, and how to report issues fast.

Key Points:

  • Every jobsite must have a designated weather emergency plan and clear chain of communication.
  • Supervisors should monitor weather alerts and issue instructions quickly when threats arise.
  • Use radios, text alerts, or sirens to notify crews of weather evacuations.
  • Clearly mark and share the designated assembly areas and storm shelters.
  • Make sure new workers get briefed on the plan during orientation.

✅ Fast, clear instructions keep crews safe when seconds matter.

Ask the Crew:

  • How will we be notified of a weather emergency?
  • Where is our designated safe zone or assembly area?
