Rigging Hardware Inspection

Toolbox Talk:

Don’t Ignore Missing or Illegible Markings

June 22, 2025

All rigging hardware must have clear identification — like load rating, manufacturer, and size. If markings are gone, so is your ability to trust it.

Why It Matters: Without markings, you can’t confirm the hardware is rated for the load. That uncertainty puts lives at risk.

Key Points:

  • Look for stamped or embossed markings on shackles, hooks, slings, and other gear.
  • Never use hardware with missing, faded, or unreadable load ratings.
  • Replace or remove unmarked equipment from service immediately.

✅ If you can’t read it, you can’t trust it.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are all our rigging components clearly marked?
  • What’s our process when gear is missing info?
