Overhead & Underground Power Line Safety

Toolbox Talk:

Communicating Electrical Hazards to All Trades

June 22, 2025

Power line safety is not just for your crew—every trade on site needs to know where the dangers lie.

Why It Matters

Breakdowns in communication lead to confusion and accidents. Crews may unknowingly set up scaffolds, stage materials, or run equipment into areas with overhead or underground electrical hazards.

Key Points:

  • Discuss line locations in daily pre-task planning (PTP) meetings.
  • Mark danger zones with high-visibility tape, cones, and signage.
  • Share utility maps and updates with all subcontractors.
  • Encourage crews to speak up if they notice unsafe setups.

Everyone on site deserves a heads-up about power hazards.

Ask the Crew:

  • Have we briefed all trades about electrical dangers?
  • Are our signs and barricades visible and up to date?
