Audiometric testing is a key part of any Hearing Conservation Program. It helps detect early signs of hearing loss — before it becomes permanent.
Why It Matters:
Noise-induced hearing loss doesn’t happen all at once. Regular hearing tests help track changes and identify whether your hearing protection is working or needs to improve.
Key Points:
- Baseline audiograms must be conducted within 6 months of starting work in a high-noise area.
- Annual follow-up tests compare results to the baseline to catch changes early.
- A Standard Threshold Shift (STS) is a change in hearing that could indicate damage — it must be addressed by the employer.
- Workers must be informed of the results and what they mean.
✅ Annual hearing tests protect your future hearing — take them seriously.
Ask the Crew:
- Have you received a baseline or annual hearing test?
- Do you know what a threshold shift means?
- Are you confident your current hearing protection is enough?
