๐Ÿ” Lockout/Tagout (Hazardous Energy Control)

When to Use Lockout/Tagout

If thereโ€™s a chance the equipment could move, start, or release energy โ€” lock it out.

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) must be used anytime workers perform servicing or maintenance where unexpected startup could cause injury. These toolbox talks explain when LOTO is required under OSHA 1910.147 and 1926.417, including work on energized circuits, mechanical systems, pressurized lines, and moving equipment. Use them to help crews understand when LOTO applies โ€” and why skipping it is never worth the risk.

Use these toolbox talks to clarify LOTO requirements, protect workers during hazardous energy tasks, and ensure OSHA compliance in the field.
