🔊 Noise and Hearing Conservation

Engineering Controls for Noise

The best way to protect hearing is to reduce noise at the source.

While PPE is important, it’s not the first line of defense against hazardous noise. These toolbox talks cover the use of engineering controls such as sound barriers, equipment enclosures, tool maintenance, low-noise equipment selection, vibration damping, and isolating noisy operations. Use them to help crews understand how jobsite design and equipment choices can significantly lower noise exposure.

Lead toolbox talks that reinforce noise control strategies and support OSHA’s hierarchy of controls for long-term hearing conservation.
